What is the National Honor Society?
From the Website: The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that recognizes outstanding high school students. NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
National Honors Society In Tacony Academy
The National Honors Society is a program that is granted to students that has a grade point average(GPA) of 3.7(91%). In Tacony last year Ms.Vieldhouse was the leader of NHS. Every year NHS choices more students to be a member of this program during the student Sophomore year of High school. Students then run for office in NHS to be either President, Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary. Students have a ceremony and candle lighting for the new members , office runners and to receive their certificates .
In Tacony NHS has helped students in lots of ways from Tutoring sessions to Community service activities like Food for the needy(Homeless), Pet food drive(Cat, Dogs, Ect.), Autism awareness ribbons and more. This year in Tacony Academy High school’s NHS is held by Mr. Morrison and Mr. Goins. They are responsible for pick our new 10th grade members this fall. The new members are responsible for following and cooperating with the 11th, 12th and the officers of that year. To create different community projects that will help the students and the community.
